Amendment No. 1 was offered by Representative Gara: Page 1, following line 4: Insert new bill sections to read: "* Section 1. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to read: LEGISLATIVE INTENT. It is the intent of the legislature that each legislative staff person be paid equitably without regard to the political party affiliation of the legislator for whom the staff person works. * Sec. 2. AS 24.10.200 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: (c) The rate established under (a) of this section shall provide that the combined salary schedule ranges of the two employees who are compensated at the highest ranges are equal for each legislator. If a legislator has only one employee, that employee must be compensated at the highest range authorized for an employee of any legislator. This subsection does not prohibit differences in the compensation of employees based on longevity or merit."
